El Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Castilla-La Mancha (COACM) tiene sede central en Toledo y cuenta con cinco demarcaciones más, una por cada provincia, con el fin de ser un organismo de consulta e información donde celebrar cursos, ciclos de conferencias, jornadas, exposiciones…
La sede de Cuenca de este organismo es un edificio restaurado situado en un enclave representativo de la ciudad, el Casco Antiguo de Cuenca, a escasos 100 metros de las Casas Colgadas, y que acoge en sus instalaciones productos Gala.
Según los arquitectos autores de la obra, el lugar entrañaba cierta facilidad para ser acondicionado para su futuro uso, gracias a la distribución y al tamaño de las estancias, las cuales se ajustaban mucho a lo que deseaban. El edifico inicialmente dividido en cinco plantas, dos de ellas destinadas al estudio y las restantes usadas como vivienda, estaba distribuido mediante mamparas de madera. La reforma llevada a cabo por María del Carmen Cabrerizo y Enrique Martínez Gil, consistió principalmente en mover algunas dichas mamparas, reformar las instalaciones y puntualmente realizar alguna apertura en los muros del inmueble.
Siguiendo la idea principal del proyecto, la construcción de una sede cercana a los ciudadanos, abierta a la ciudad y a sus gentes, aparte de conseguir una serie de espacios para los usos necesarios del Colegio, se llevó a cabo la rehabilitación del inmueble.
Así, la planta baja se destinó a albergar una sala de exposiciones y un archivo de consulta. La primera planta, se convirtió en un espacio de recepción, con un hall de entrada con las dependencias de atención al público. El segundo piso acoge varios despachos y una sala de cursos. La tercera planta, con acceso a un patio con vegetación y piscina, dispone de una sala de juntas y de otro espacio menor para celebrar las comisiones de los colegiados. Finalmente, nos encontramos una bonita biblioteca abuhardillada, en la cuarta planta del edificio.
